During Barack Obama’s sham of a presidency, the Department of Homeland Security refused to give U.S. senators the immigration statuses of individuals implicated in terrorism, which made it impossible to know how much terrorism was being carried out by refugees, illegal immigrants, or legal immigrants. Over the weekend, however, Donald Trump signed an executive order that will change all that…
The Daily Caller reported that Trump has signed an executive order that will require this information be released, allowing the public to know just how many terrorists are foreign-born.
In 2015 and 2016, Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz sent a series of letters to Obama’s Department of Justice asking for this information. They were referred to the DHS, who denied their requests.
The Senate subcommittee on immigration and the national interest were then able to find this information through statistics that are available to the public and they found that over half of the people that were convicted of terrorism between Sept. 11, 2001 and Dec. 31, 2014 were born in foreign nations. However, they weren’t able to find any immigration information on 129 individuals, which made it difficult to get a clear picture on just how many terrorists are foreign.
Trump’s newly-signed order calls for “transparency and data collection.” It gives the Secretary of Homeland Security 180 days to make the immigration status of foreign nationals charged with major offenses. The DHS Secretary will consult with the Attorney General in this endeavor.
In addition, this order will force the DHS to reveal statistics on honor killings committed by immigrants every six months.
This is the kind of transparency we have CRAVED throughout the eight dark years of the Obama presidency. SHARE this story if you SUPPORT this executive order!
